Mrs. Angie Leonard- Math 7 and Geometry

Mrs. Leonard grew up in Carroll County, Virginia where she graduated from Carroll County High School.  She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Virginia Intermont College and a Master's degree in Special Education from Old Dominion University; however, because of her passion for mathematics education, Mrs. Leonard pursued and obtained her endorsement to teach middle school math.



Mrs. Leonard began her teaching career at Grayson County Public School’s Independence Elementary in 2001 as a Special Education teacher. In 2005, she was hired as a special education teacher at Galax High School. While at Galax High School, she primarily co-taught in the inclusion math settings which included such classes as Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Algebra Functions and Data Analysis, and Computer Math. Mrs. Leonard presently teaches seventh grade math at Galax Middle School.

Mrs. Jan Embree - Civics and Economics

Mrs. Embree has lived in Galax for six years. She is a Nebraska native and lived in Denver, Colorado for 14 years. She is a lifelong learner and educator. She has a degree in Christian Education, Bachelor of Science- Interdisciplinary Studies, PreK-6, and is endorsed in Social Studies 6-12 by the Commonwealth of Virginia. She is currently pursuing a Masters in History through the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

Mrs. Shelia Ramey - Science

Mrs. Ramey grew up in the Galax area and graduated from Carroll County High School in 1992. She continued her education at Wytheville Community College for one year before transferring to Bluefield College. She earned a B.S. degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Bluefield College in 1995. Since beginning her teaching career she has completed additional coursework at Wytheville Community College, Radford University, University of Virginia, and Mary Washington University.

Mrs. Ramey began her teaching career at Galax Middle School in 1996. She has taught 8th grade Physical Science, 7th grade Life Science, and one year of sixth grade science. In addition to teaching Life Science daily, Mrs. Ramey teaches a Career Focus class to 7th grade students. Mrs. Ramey is also the middle school’s National Junior Honor Society Adviser.

“I truly enjoy teaching middle school students…there’s never a dull moment and always lots of entertainment! Seventh grade is a wonderful year for students. We learn about so many interesting topics. It’s also fun to see the world outside of the classroom with our students. Seventh graders participate in many ‘adventures’ throughout the year. I enjoy getting to know each of my students during the school year and also continuing to watch them grow and celebrate their accomplishments for years to come!”

Mrs. Lora Iroler-Williams - English/Reading

Mrs. Iroler-Williams was raised in the Riverside area of Fries, Virginia. She graduated from the former Fries High School in 1984. Upon graduating she attended Radford University and received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Early/Middle Education.

She began her teaching career in Grayson County for two years before coming to Galax Elementary to pilot the Pre-K program. In 1992 she moved to Northern Virginia where she taught Language Arts and Social Studies for three years. Since returning to Galax, she has taught 6th and 7th grade Language Arts at Galax Middle School.
