Erika Hill

Ms. Hill is a 2009 graduate of Grayson County High School. She then attended Emory & Henry College and graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor's of Arts in Interdisciplinary Mathematics as well as a Master's of Education in Professional Studies. Miss Hill has been a middle school math teacher the past 5 years. This includes teaching Math 8 at Patrick County High School and Carroll County Middle School as well as teaching 6th and 7th grade Math at Fries School. She is excited for the opportunity to teach elementary students at GES! She will be one of the 4th grade Math teachers for the 2018-2019 school year. 

Mrs. Leigh Stuart - Math

Mrs. Stuart mostly grew up in Fayetteville, NC, where she graduated from Pine Forest High School in 1990. She attended college at Methodist College in Fayetteville. She received her Bachelors of Science degree in Elementary Education (Prek-6). Mrs. Stuart worked in the Cumberland County School District as a 3rd grade teacher for one year before moving to Galax to marry Mr. Brian Stuart. 

Mrs. Stuart taught in Carroll County at Oakland Elementary and Woodlawn School as a Title I/ Reading Recovery teacher for three years. She then transferred to the Wythe County Schools to continue teaching Reading Recovery at Max Meadows Elementary for four years. The next ten years, Mrs. Stuart taught 5th grade at Oakland Elementary in the Carroll County School System. In 2013, Mrs. Stuart joined the Galax School system as the 5th grade math teacher at Galax Middle School.  Currently, she teaches math and reading in 4th grade at GES.   

When not in school, Mrs. Stuart enjoys spending time with her husband and their three children: Jacob, Jayson, and Jenna. She also loves to read!

Ms. Deborah Davis

Mrs. Davis was born and raised in Galax, Virginia and graduated from Galax High School. She then proceeded to acquire a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Hollins College. She earned a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis on reading from Virginia Tech. Upon completion of this degree she received her added designation as a reading specialist. She has also completed graduate work in American History through the University of Virginia, Emory and Henry College, and William and Mary.

Mrs. Davis began her teaching career in the Carroll County Public School System. After teaching at Carroll County Intermediate School for 4 years, she came back to the Galax City Public School System as a teacher. Since starting in Galax City Public Schools in 2000 she has taught a variety of grades spending most of her time in the 4th grade. Mrs. Davis’s particular area of interest is Virginia History. She has participated in teacher institutes at Jamestown/Yorktown, Montpelier, the Virginia Historical Society, Stratford Hall, Colonial Williamsburg, and the Library of Virginia. She is a member of the Virginia Historical Society, the National Conference of History Educators, the Organization of American History, the Virginia Council for the Social Studies, and the Southern Association for Women Historians.

Mrs. Davis is also a member of the international teaching organizations of Alpha Delta Kappa and Delta Kappa Gamma. These organizations recognize outstanding women educators. Mrs. Davis has served in a variety of leadership roles for both of these organizations.

Ms. Crystal Sessions

Ms. Sessions is originally from Honaker, VA. and graduated from Honaker High, in 1996. She then proceeded to acquire an Associate’s Degree from Southwest VA Community College. After having her daughter, Alyssa, she continued her education at Virginia Intermont where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education.

Her teaching career began at Galax Elementary School in 2001. After teaching at Galax for a few years, she continued her education through East Tennessee State University. She graduated with a Master’s Degree in Mathematical Science in 2006.

She moved to Jacksonville, NC in 2008, where she continued to teach and work as a math facilitator amongst several of the schools in Onslow Co. While in Jacksonville, she had a son, Briar.

In 2013, she moved back to Galax, to continue her teaching career.

“I have always had a passion for math. Students don’t always come to my room with a love for math, but my goal is to change that feeling within my students, and to show them all that they can conquer math if they are determined to.”

Mrs. Brooks Edwards

Mrs. Edwards, a Galax native, graduated from Galax City Public Schoo​ls ​and Emory and Henry College, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary English.  She taught pre-school, first grade, and second grade before joining fourth grade​.

She and her husband Kevin, have three children, Peyton, Emily, and Clay.  She enjoys spending time with family and friends and reading.  

Mrs. Darla Robbins

Mrs. Robbins is a native of Southern California.  She graduated from California State University Long Beach (The Beach) with a BA in Liberal Studies and a concentration in Religious Studies.  She also holds an ESL endorsement.  She taught 8 years in California before moving to Virginia in 2004.  She has taught at GES since 2004.  Her experience has been in Kindergarten, first, second, third, and fourth grades along with teaching ESL for 3 years.
